FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION (DELAYED) 1400 BLOCK OF WEST VALENCIA ROAD |
On May 29, 2025, just after 2:30 a.m., officers from Operations Division South responded to a single-vehicle collision in the 1400 block of West Valencia Road. A gold 2001 Honda Civic had struck a streetlight in the raised median while traveling westbound. Upon arrival, officers located the driver, an adult female, with life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Banner University Medical Center by Tucson Fire. Traffic Detectives responded to the scene and continued the investigation.
Based on witness statements and roadway evidence, investigators determined the Honda was traveling westbound on Valencia Road when the driver lost control and collided with the streetlight. Investigators found alcohol in the vehicle and believe impairment is a factor; however, due to her condition, officers were unable to evaluate the driver for impairment.
On June 5, 2025, the Tucson Police Department was notified that the driver had succumbed to her injuries. She was identified as 19-year-old Briyana Aileen Sanchez. Her family has been notified. The investigation is ongoing.
