EXTENDED PARKING METER HOURS NOW IN EFFECT - Extended parking meter hours are in effect in the Downtown, Mercado, and Main Gate Square/University districts. As of Monday, June 2, the new hours are from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The new parking meter hours do not apply to the Fourth Avenue district due to impacts from the Downtown Links project. The new hours are expected to increase the availability of on-street parking for visitors and help support reinvestment in Park Tucson services to enhance safety, security, and facilities. Parking meters can be paid with coins, credit/debit card, or by phone on the GoTucson Parking app. With the app, you can save your payment information so you can use it on the go, and you can even extend your time without having to go back and feed coins to the meter. MAIN LIBRARY RELOCATION BRINGS FRESH CHAPTER FOR HEART OF DOWNTOWN TUCSON - The Pima County Board of Supervisors voted yesterday, June 3, to purchase the former Wells Fargo Building on North Stone Avenue with the intended purpose of moving downtown's Joel D. Valdez Main library, currently located in the City of Tucson-owned building at 101 N. Stone Ave. That facility is a prime downtown location with an associated parking garage and Jácome Plaza, all owned by the City, which will be ready to engage with downtown stakeholders and the larger community on a comprehensive plan for the building that was built in 1990. Pima County determined it would be cheaper to buy and renovate the smaller building than renovating the current one. The County will now spend up to 60 days thoroughly evaluating and doing an environmental assessment of the former Wells Fargo building, two ancillary buildings, and adjacent parking garage before completing the sale. The bank building was built in 1957 and has undergone several renovations over the years. Read the City of Tucson news release Read the Pima County news release
