QUINCIE DOUGLAS POOL AND SLIDE IMPROVEMENT CELEBRATION
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, Ward 5 Council Member Rocque Perez, and the Parks and Recreation department will host a celebration for the recently completed improvements at Quincie Douglas Pool on Friday, June 6, at 1 p.m. at 1563 E. 36th Street.
The $1.1 million renovation project, completed by Kratt Construction Inc., was funded through $437,180 from Proposition 407 and $683,638 from the City’s Investment Fund.
“Investments like these are what Quincie Douglas fought for,” said Tucson Mayor Regina Romero. “Douglas was a leader who fought for this part of Tucson that experienced historic disinvestment. Because of her, children and families in neighborhoods like Pueblo Gardens, South Park, Las Vistas and Western Hills have access to aquatics and resources where they can learn how to swim, recreate, be healthy and thrive,” said the Mayor.
Renovations included replacing the aging pool and splash pad decks, re-plastering the pool shell, and refurbishing the pool slide. Repairs were also made to the concrete pedestals supporting the slide. In addition, the sand filter tanks were replaced, and new security screens were installed over the lifeguard house windows.
“The Quincie Douglas Pool is a beloved space for families across the Southside. I’m proud that our community’s investment—through Prop 407 and City funding—has delivered meaningful improvements to a place that brings people together, especially during the summer heat,” said Rocque Perez, Council Member for Ward 5.
