FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION SOUTH HOUGHTON ROAD AND EAST RITA ROAD
On June 1, 2025, just after 6:45 a.m., officers from Operations Division East, along with personnel from the Tucson Fire Department (TFD), responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a silver 2023 Jeep Wrangler, at the intersection of South Houghton Road and East Rita Road. TFD personnel evaluated the driver, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver's identity has not been confirmed at this time.
Traffic Detectives were contacted and responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Based on witness interviews and roadway evidence, investigators determined that the Wrangler was traveling northbound on Houghton Road at a high rate of speed. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a traffic signal control pole at the intersection.
Excessive speed is believed to be the primary contributing factor in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
