Juvenile Firearms Arrests
On April 29, 2025, two males went to their friend's residence in the 100 block of West Borrego Street, where a physical altercation ensued between one of them and another male at the house. At some point during the altercation, the primary suspect came into possession of an AR15 that belonged to the victim.
Officers contacted the suspect at his residence, where he was seen attempting to flee through an alley. Officers were able to catch the suspect and detain him, locating a handgun in his flight path. After having been read his Miranda rights, the suspect admitted to taking the AR15, concealing it in his pants, and leaving the residence. He also admitted the handgun was his, and said that the AR15 had been left at his friend's residence.
After having been read his Miranda rights, this friend admitted to hiding the AR15 in a wash behind his residence. An AR15 was located, along with a Glock inside a case with six ammunition magazines. The friend also admitted the Glock was his. A records check revealed that the friend, a juvenile, is a prohibited possessor – for two counts of Burglary in the 1st Degree, Non-residential. Both the suspect and his friend were booked into the Pima County Juvenile Court Center on multiple felony charges.

Juvenile Brings Loaded Gun to School
On May 5, 2025, a 16-year-old student was suspected of bringing a firearm to school. School staff confronted the student and confirmed that he was in possession of a loaded firearm. When staff tried to retrieve it and detain him, he fought with them, resulting in a school lockdown. The suspect’s juvenile girlfriend was just outside the office where the fight was occurring and decided to join in, assaulting school staff.
Officer Ray Vega arrived first on scene and observed the fight. Using his Regional Active Assailant Response training, Officer Vega addressed the situation alone before any critical incident occurred. Both students were detained before additional officers arrived.
Detectives with ODS Neighborhood Crimes Section (NCS) and TPD's Threat Mitigation Unit responded to the location and established charges of: Minor in Possession of a Firearm, Interfering With an Educational Institution, and two counts of Aggravated Assault on School Staff for the primary suspect. Additional charges for the girlfriend included: Interfering With an Educational Institution and three counts of Aggravated Assault on School Staff. Thankfully, only minor injuries to school staff were reported, and no students were hurt.
Firearm Discharge Arrest
On May 10, 2025, ODS Squads 1, 8, and 9 responded to a shots fired incident in a residential area northwest of Country Club and Drexel. Multiple callers reported hearing shots and/or seeing a male walking through the area, firing a handgun into the air.
Officers located and detained the 19-year-old male, who was armed with a handgun and had an extended magazine in his pocket.
The area was canvassed; witnesses were located, but there were no victims. Multiple cameras were located, and multiple shell casings (16) were recovered throughout the neighborhood.
After having been read his Miranda rights, the suspect admitted his involvement. He was booked into the Pima County Jail for Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits.
Meth, Narcotics Arrests
On May 15, 2025, officers were conducting proactive patrol in the area of 12th and Drexel. A suspicious vehicle was located at the mouth of the alley north of Calle Ramona on Liberty. The driver said he was waiting for his passenger, who was visiting transients in the alley. A K9 was requested for suspected drugs in the vehicle. A K9 officer arrived on scene, and the dog alerted to drugs in the vehicle. The driver was placed under arrest for drug paraphernalia. It was suspected that more drugs would be found with the passenger, as there was an indication of possible drug sales.
Officers contacted three subjects in the alley, all of whom took off running. Containment was set, and a drone (already up) and more K9 units assisted in the scout. A male suspect was spotted by the drone operator, who directed officers to the suspect as he threw large quantities of meth on the ground. A discarded bag with a large amount of cash and drugs was found in the yard he jumped into.
Another male was found hiding, while a female was contacted exiting the containment. The male passenger was located nearby, discarding M30s and paraphernalia just before police made contact. All three runners were located and apprehended due to the outstanding teamwork and resources available to assist.
Arrests were as follows:
Driver – Drug Paraphernalia
Passenger – Possession of Narcotics and Drug Paraphernalia, Warrant
Male Runner – Two Felony Warrants, two TPD Warrants, Trespassing
Male Runner – Meth Sales, Possession of Narcotics and Drug Paraphernalia, Felony Warrant
