SUMMER POOLS OPEN NEXT MONTH - Tucson Parks and Recreation will employ more than 230 lifeguards and open 19 summer pools, from June 1 to July 31. Pool admission remains free for everyone. Water programs will include swim lessons, a swim team, synchronized swimming, and adaptive aquatics. For full pool schedules, locations, and registration information, follow the links below. TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION HOSTS OPEN HOUSES AT ALL RECREATION CENTERS - Tucson Parks and Recreation is hosting open houses at all its recreation centers throughout the year, giving you a chance to take tours, learn about programs and events, and even win some free promotional materials. Guests will receive a limited-edition water bottle and stickers (visit multiple open houses to collect all of them) and 50% off the purchase of a Universal Pass (must be bought at an open house event to get the deal). The next open house is Wednesday, May 21, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., at Santa Rosa Center, 1080 S. 10th Ave. More information about open houses El Rio Center
TEAM UP TO CLEAN UP TOMORROW - The City of Tucson’s Storm to Shade program is teaming up with Environmental Services for a Team Up to Clean Up event on South 12th Avenue tomorrow, May 16, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Volunteers will gather on the dirt lot at the northeast corner of 12th Avenue and Drexel Road, working their way north. While sunscreen, gloves, and safety vests will be provided, you're advised to bring water, a hat, and sunglasses. Dress in long pants, long sleeves, and wear closed-toe, sturdy shoes. FREE CONCERT IN THE PARK THIS WEEKEND - Gene C. Reid Park is alive with music this month. The Tucson Pops Orchestra will host Music Under the Stars™. The next concert of the May series will take place on Sunday, May 18, at 7 p.m. at Gene C. Reid Park’s DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center, 800 S. Concert Place. All concerts are free and open to the public. For those who are able, a donation of $10 per person is suggested. You can purchase food from on-site food trucks. Tucson Pops website
