SUN TRAN TO HOST PUBLIC INPUT MEETINGS FOR ROUTES 5 AND 22 - Sun Tran is hosting a series of meetings to gather community feedback on the possible elimination of Route 5 and the extension of Route 22. The Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) and Sun Tran were directed to determine the five lowest-performing routes in the transit system and find operational and budget efficiencies. Sun Tran identified Route 5 (Pima/West Speedway), Route 15 (Campbell), Route 21 (West Congress/Silverbell), Route 22 (El Rio/West Speedway), and Route 61 (La Cholla) as the lowest-performing routes. The City of Tucson would net a cost savings of $1 million annually by extending Route 22 to Pima Community College West Campus and eliminating Route 5. Community members are encouraged to attend any of the in-person or virtual meetings, which you can find by following the link below. Read the news release
ASIAN SMALL CLAWED OTTERS NOW SWIMMING AT REID PARK ZOO - Reid Park Zoo this week announced the addition of two Asian small-clawed otters. Berani (male, age 3) and Little Frei (female, age 7) explored their new habitat for the first time yesterday, May 7. The two otters have been getting along very well since they were introduced behind-the-scenes last week. Little Frei is the more outgoing of the two otters and can be identified by her lengthy tail, sharper snout, and light brown neck. Berani is a more stout, stubby otter, with a lighter muzzle and white on his body and chin. Reid Park Zoo is currently constructing its upcoming Pathway to Asia expansion. When it is complete, Berani and Little Frei will move into a brand new habitat in the expansion, complete with a stream, waterfall, and rockwork. Read more from Reid Park Zoo
