MAYOR AND COUNCIL APPOINTS NEW WARD 5 COUNCIL MEMBER - Tucson's Mayor and Council yesterday, May 6, appointed Rocque Perez II as the new council member in Ward 5, replacing Richard Fimbres, who retired last Thursday, May 1. Perez, who most recently served as executive director of the Metro Education Commission (MEC), was sworn in immediately after being selected from a pool of four finalists. In his comments to Mayor and Council, Perez touted his record in public service, nonprofit leadership, higher education, and managing a broad range of budgets and initiatives. DEADLINE APPROACHING TO PARTICIPATE IN SUN VAN'S COMPREHENSIVE OPERATIONAL ANALYSIS SURVEY - The Sun Van Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA) aims to identify opportunities to improve access to transit, enhance Sun Van service for a better customer experience, and propose recommendations for future service. Since feedback is essential in shaping the future of Sun Van, riders are asked to complete the brief survey linked below. SENIOR WALK AND HEALTH FAIR SATURDAY - Join Tucson Parks and Recreation for Step Forward for Senior Wellness, a community event dedicated to honoring loved ones lost to age-related diseases and supporting those currently living with them. The event takes place Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to noon, at Armory Park, 220 S. 5th Ave. The walk and health fair will raise awareness and provide resources for individuals affected by specific conditions, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and cardiac disease. Attendees can participate in a walk, beginning at 9 a.m., while also exploring various health and wellness resources from organizations across Southern Arizona. STAY ACTIVE AND FIT AT A RECREATION CENTER NEAR YOU - Take advantage of fitness opportunities and recreation amenities by using a recreation center near you. Tucson Parks and Recreation offers free access at nine locations throughout the city. Two types of passes are offered for all other locations, Universal and Restricted. Universal Passes must be purchased for Armory Park, El Pueblo, Morris K. Udall, Randolph, and William M. Clements centers. The Restricted Pass can only be used at Donna R. Liggins Center. Depending on the location, benefits may include using the gymnasium, weight room, indoor track, racquetball courts, locker rooms, and game areas.
