CELEBRATE COMPLETION OF A NEW SPLASH PAD AT FREEDOM PARK - Join Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, Ward 4 Council Woman Nikki Lee, and Tucson Parks and Recreation as they celebrate the completion of a new splash pad at Freedom Park, 5000 E. 29th St., with a special event on Saturday, May 3, at 10 a.m. Funded by voter-approved Proposition 407 bond funds and impact fees, the project included replacing the old wading pool with a modern splash pad, adding fencing and outdoor furniture, and renovating restrooms for ADA accessibility. The celebration will take place during the annual Ward 4 Splash Bash, a free community event, from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., featuring food, games, crafts, and jumping castles. VIEW PARKS AND RECREATION SUMMER CLASSES AND CAMPS - Tucson Parks and Recreation will offer a wide array of indoor leisure classes and camps this summer. Classes range from arts and crafts, Little Movers and Shakers, dance, gymnastics, jewelry making, glass fusing, music, and more for youth and adults. KIDCO Summer (5-11 years old), KIDCO Inclusion (5-11 years old), In-Betweeners Club (12-14 years old), Junior Staff in Training (14-17 years old), and Therapeutic Recreation camps will be offered in June and July. REGISTER FOR PARKS AND RECREATION AQUATICS PROGRAMS - Tucson Parks and Recreation will offer a Swim Team and a Synchronized Swimming League this summer. The Swim Team is for ages 17 and under who can swim one length of the pool using a competitive stroke. A swim test will be given on the first day, and the season ends with a championship meet in late July. The Synchronized Swimming League welcomes beginning to intermediate swimmers, ages 6–17, who are comfortable in deep water. A skills meet will be held in June, with a citywide water show in July. TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION HOSTS OPEN HOUSES AT ALL RECREATION CENTERS - Tucson Parks and Recreation is hosting open houses at all its recreation centers throughout the year, giving you a chance to take tours, learn about programs and events, and even win some free promotional materials. Guests will receive a limited-edition water bottle and stickers (visit multiple open houses to collect all of them) and 50% off the purchase of a Universal Pass (must be bought at an open house event to get the deal). CITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPER EARNS STATEWIDE RECOGNITION - The Arizona Association for Economic Development honored Mike Czechowski, CEcD, with the prestigious Economic Developer of the Year (Large Community) award at last week’s annual Spring Conference in Oro Valley. The Large Community category is defined as a service area with a population of more than 150,000 people. Since July 2012, Czechowski, senior project manager in the Office of Economic Initiatives, has been responsible for the attraction and expansion of large companies. He has negotiated and completed more than 24 development agreements with new companies locating to Tucson and local companies wishing to expand. He also plays an essential role in the City’s economic development success and administers the City’s Primary Jobs Incentive program, leading to more than $1.5 billion in capital investment.
