Sexual Assault Arrest
|
On March 3, 2025, Operations Division South officers responded to a report of a sexual assault. The female victim met the male suspect at the Ronstadt Transit Center. She did not have a phone or a watch and asked the suspect for the time. She was waiting for a specific bus. The suspect told her that that bus was no longer running that night and invited her to go with him.
They took a bus to the area of 12th and Ajo and went into a convenience store, where the suspect purchased several items. The victim then followed the suspect to the area of 16th and Ajo, where the suspect was going to buy pills. The suspect walked her in the darkness into a desert area, where he grabbed her and sexually assaulted her. They then walked out of the desert area and the suspect left, while the victim walked back to the convenience store and reported the incident.
Evidence was collected and video was obtained from the convenience store. The desert area was canvassed and, with the diligent help of Crime Scene Specialist Lauer, a scene was located and processed.
This investigation was able to conclude with a positive ID of the suspect. On March 26, 2025, the suspect was spotted and arrested for an outstanding parole violation. He agreed to speak with detectives and admitted to sexual contact with the victim, stating it was consensual. At the time of his arrest, the suspect had a bladed weapon that was consistent with the victim's description. He was ultimately booked for sexual assault, aggravated assault, and kidnapping.
Parole Violation Arrest in Santa Rita Park
On March 5, 2025, ODS officers were conducting a proactive patrol of Santa Rita Park. Officers made contact with a male and a female who were sleeping. Upon being woken up, the male identified himself and a records check revealed that he had a felony warrant out of the Arizona Department of Corrections for a parole violation. The warrant was confirmed and the male was transported to the Department of Corrections complex at 10000 South Wilmot, where DOC personnel took custody of him.
Jaywalking Leads to Felony & Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest
On March 14, 2025, ODS officers were conducting a proactive patrol in the 12th and Valencia corridor. Three separate groups of at least two to four subjects were observed loitering on the property at a convenience store. Due to the officer presence, the loitering issue was quickly rectified, and they walked off the property. One individual decided to jaywalk across six lanes of traffic, separating himself from the groups. This is standard procedure for individuals with wants and/or warrants. The male was identified and admitted to having a felony warrant. A records check showed that he had a felony warrant for organized retail theft and four more misdemeanor warrants. He was placed under arrest and booked into the Pima County Jail.

Trespassing Leads to Identification of Male Wanted for Attempted Murder
On April 3, 2025, ODS officers were conducting proactive policing in the area of 12th and Ajo. Three individuals were contacted who were previously seen trespassing at a nearby convenience store. Upon making contact with the individuals, one of them was recognized from a wanted flyer out of the South Tucson Police Department for attempted 1st degree murder, armed robbery, and burglary. He was detained in handcuffs without incident, and STPD was notified and took custody of the suspect. Special thanks to LPO Gist, Officer Dicochea, Officer Morin, and Officer Varela for their assistance during the investigation.
K9 Apprehension
On April 15, 2025, ODS officers were flagged down at a bar in the 5400 block of South 12th Avenue regarding a vehicle that had hit and uprooted a light pole (estimated damage: $5,000). Witnesses advised that a single male occupant had fled east into the neighborhood on foot. A drone was deployed and spotted a male running east through an alleyway. The male stopped and attempted to hide by lying prone against a wall. Small unit tactics were utilized, and a contact team was established.
The male was contacted and tried to run away from officers. Officer Munoz and her K9 partner, Ace, apprehended the male after he tried to scale a wall. The male later made admissions to driving, drinking, and running away from the scene. A DUI investigation was conducted, and he was found to be impaired. He was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail. Special thanks to everyone who helped out with this, and congratulations to K9 Ace on his first apprehension. Good dog!
Raytheon Meeting
ODS officers were invited to Raytheon to meet with their security team and staff on April 15, 2025. Officers fielded a variety of questions regarding police response and crime prevention. Due to the nature of Raytheon’s work, a strong partnership and understanding of one another’s operations is vital to keeping the community safe!
 Egg Hop at Quincie Douglas
The Quincie Douglas Annual Egg Hop was another great success! ODS officers and CSOs participated in this fun-filled community event that featured numerous information booths, social service agencies, and City departments. I don't think anyone had any trouble finding eggs!
 Crime Prevention Tip
It can be pretty shocking to be the victim of a crime, and difficult to remain focused in the moment. Your first goal is to protect your own safety and that of others, especially children or people who can't look out for themselves. That is absolutely the most important thing.
As soon as you're safe, however, there are things you can do to help police catch the suspect. If you can take a photo or video of the suspect with your cell phone, even from a distance, that can be helpful (again, only if it's safe to do so). After you've called 911, you can make mental notes, then write them down as soon as you can. In recalling what the suspect looked like, it can be helpful to start at the head (hair, facial hair, eyes, glasses, tattoos, hat, etc.) and work your way down from there to shirt/jacket, pants, and shoes. Was there a vehicle? If so, any part of the license plate you recall may be helpful, but also the color, make, and model of the vehicle. Did you see a weapon? What did it look like? What did the suspect say? Which direction did they go when they left? Did they touch anything with their hands?
Don't worry if you can't remember all the details – memory isn't perfect. But taking time to write things down as soon as possible afterward can be helpful, and that's all anyone can ask for.
