DELYAED FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION EAST OLD SPANISH TRAIL AND SOUTH HOUGHTON ROAD
On April 23, 2025, shortly after 8:30 p.m., officers from the Operations Division East responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of E. Old Spanish Trail and S. Houghton Rd. The crash involved a red 2002 Ford Escape and a grey 2022 Toyota Tacoma. Personnel from the Tucson Fire Department arrived on the scene and evaluated all occupants. The driver of the Toyota, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver and passenger in the Ford, an adult male and adult female, were not injured.
According to witness statements, the Ford was traveling northbound on Houghton Rd. and failed to stop for a red light. At that time, the Toyota was traveling eastbound on Old Spanish Trail when it was struck by the Ford. The driver of the Ford immediately stopped after the collision and fully cooperated with the investigation. It was determined that the Ford’s driver was not impaired at the time of the collision. The driver, identified as a 21-year-old adult male, was issued a civil citation for Failure to Stop for a Red Light.
On April 26, 2025, the Tucson Police Department was notified by the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner that the driver of the Toyota, identified as 45-year-old Joshua James Kirk, had passed away as a result of his injuries. Next of kin have been notified of his passing. The Tucson Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit will review the case to determine whether any additional civil or criminal charges are warranted.
