DELYAED FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION EAST BROADWAY BOULEVARD AND NORTH PRUDENCE ROAD
On April 17, 2025, shortly after 5:00 p.m., officers from the Operations Division East responded to the intersection of East Broadway Boulevard and East Prudence Road for the reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a blue 2016 Nissan Versa and a white 2021 Dodge Challenger. Personnel from the Tucson Fire Department arrived on the scene and evaluated both drivers. The driver of the Nissan, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Dodge, an adult female, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
According to witness statements, the Nissan was traveling eastbound in the left turn lane on Broadway Boulevard and attempted to make a left-hand turn onto northbound Prudence Road. At that time, the Dodge was traveling westbound on Broadway Boulevard and collided with the Nissan. There were no indications that impairment was a factor for either driver. Failure to yield while making a left turn by the Nissan appears to be the major contributing factor of the collision.
On April 24, 2025, the Tucson Police Department was notified by the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner that the driver of the Nissan, identified as 60-year-old Francisco Javier De La Ree Cajigas, had passed away as a result of his injuries. Next of kin have been notified of his passing. The Tucson Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit will review the case to determine whether any criminal or civil violations occurred.
