WARD 5 COUNCIL MEMBER VACANCY APPOINTMENT PROCESS ANNOUNCED
The Mayor and Council, at the April 22 Study Session, approved the appointment process to fill the Ward 5 seat for the duration of Council Member Richard Fimbres' term, at the conclusion of which the winner of the upcoming November election for Ward 5 Council Member, shall take the seat.
Interested community members who meet the requirements set forth by the Tucson City Charter can apply to be appointed to the position by completing the online application wherein they will be asked to upload a letter of interest, a current resume, and a completed financial disclosure statement.
All materials requested must be filed and received by 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
Successful applicants will make a short presentation at a Special Meeting of the Mayor and Council to begin at or after 3 p.m. on May 6, 2025, after which the Mayor and Council will select a candidate for the appointment. The appointed candidate will then be sworn in by the City Clerk in order to immediately participate in the proceedings of the Regular Meeting of the Mayor and Council that evening.
Tucson City Charter Requirements:
To qualify for the Ward 5 City Council Member position the appointee must be someone who has been a qualified elector who has lived in the City limits for the last three (3) years; and who has lived in Ward 5 for at least one (1) year (with adjustments in the event of annexation or redistricting). These requirements for qualification are established in the Tucson Charter, Chapter XVI, Section 5.
