FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION EAST GOLF LINKS ROAD AND S CRAYCROFT ROAD
On April 11, 2025, just after 4:00 p.m., officers from Operations Division Midtown responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of E. Golf Links Road and S. Craycroft Road involving a maroon 2024 Chevrolet Malibu and a white 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Tucson Fire personnel arrived on scene and evaluated the occupants of both vehicles. Both drivers and the passenger of the Malibu were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. Shortly after arrival, the passenger—identified as 72-year-old Peggy Jean Johns—was pronounced deceased. Next of kin has been notified of her passing.
Traffic Detectives were called to the scene to continue the investigation. Witness statements, along with roadway evidence, indicated that the Malibu was traveling eastbound on Golf Links Road and attempting to make a left turn onto S. Craycroft Road. At that time, the FJ Cruiser was traveling westbound on Golf Links Road and collided with the Malibu. Detectives noted that all occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
Officers responded to the hospital and evaluated both drivers for impairment. It was determined that neither driver was impaired at the time of the collision. Traffic detectives will continue to investigate the collision and work to determine the status of the traffic control lights at the time of the crash. Failure to yield while making a left turn by the Malibu is believed to be the primary contributing factor of the collision.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges or citations have been issued at this time.
