HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION WEST 21ST STREET AND SOUTH SIXTH AVENUE |

On April 5, 2025, just after 10 a.m., patrol officers from Operations Division South responded to the report of a shooting at a residence on West 21st Street, west of 6th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male inside the residence with gunshot trauma. The victim was transported to an area hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Police identified the victim as 44-year-old Clayton Moore Bishop. Mr. Bishop’s family was notified of his passing. Officers at the scene gathered witnesses and detained the suspected shooter. TPD Homicide Detectives continued the investigation at the scene.
Detectives searched the home after obtaining a warrant and completing multiple interviews. Detectives believe that Mr. Bishop was temporarily staying at the home, which belongs to the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Dirk Barret Prather. Police charged Mr. Prather with 1st Degree Murder after processing the scene and interviewing him. He was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail and is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond.
