DELAYED FATAL VEHCILE COLLISION 500 BLOCK OF NORTH WILMOT ROAD |
On March 4, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers from Operations Division East responded to the 500 block of N. Wilmot Rd. for reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a silver 2017 Ford Escape and a gray 2005 Toyota Sienna. Tucson Fire personnel arrived on the scene and evaluated the occupants of both vehicles. The driver of the Ford Escape, identified as 87-year-old Patricia Smith, was transported to a local hospital.
Witness statements, along with roadway evidence, indicated that Ms. Smith was traveling southbound on Wilmot Rd. when she attempted to make a left-hand turn onto St. Joseph’s Emergency Department Driveway in the 500 block of N. Wilmot Rd. At that time, the Toyota Sienna, driven by a 43-year-old male, was traveling northbound on Wilmot Rd. and collided with Ms. Smith’s vehicle. Officers noted that there were no traffic control devices for northbound or southbound traffic on Wilmot Rd. There was no indication that either driver was impaired at the time of the collision.
On March 29, 2025, the Tucson Police Department was notified by the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner that Ms. Smith had passed away as a result of her injuries. Her next of kin has been notified of her passing. The Tucson Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit will review the case to determine if any criminal or civil violations occurred.
