CONGRESSMAN RAÚL GRIJALVA PASSES AWAY AT THE AGE OF 77 - The office of 7th District Congressman Raúl Grijalva announced his passing today due to complications from cancer treatments. The City of Tucson joins Mayor Regina Romero, council members, and our community in mourning Grijalva's passing. "I am devastated to hear of the passing of my mentor, my friend, and our congressman, Representative Raúl Grijalva," Romero said. "His lifetime of service to Tucson, Southern Arizona, and our nation, will never be forgotten. OPERATION DEEP FREEZE IS ON TONIGHT - Limited overflow shelter beds are available for people seeking safe shelter from the cold weather. Operation Deep Freeze (ODF) is Tucson's severe winter weather emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness. ODF goes into effect when weather predictions for overnight temperatures are 40°F or lower with rain, 35°F or lower without rain, or when wind chill factors indicate a health hazard from exposure. You do not need identification or a TB card to participate in ODF. To join ODF, go to The Salvation Army Hospitality House, 1002 N. Main Ave., between 3-5 p.m., for intake. REVIEW THE REVISED PLAN TUCSON DRAFT AND SHARE YOUR INPUT AT A PUBLIC HEARING - The updated Plan Tucson 2025 Revised Draft is now available for review, outlining Tucson’s vision for growth, sustainability, and community development, while ensuring future development aligns with community values. As part of the review process, the Planning Commission will hold another public hearing to gather feedback before making a recommendation to Tucson's Mayor and Council. The next hearing is Wednesday, March 19, at 6 p.m., at Mayor and Council Chambers, 255 W. Alameda St. There is also a virtual option (link below). TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION HOSTS SUMMER JOB FAIR - Tucson Parks and Recreation will host a summer job fair tomorrow, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the department’s administration building, 900 S. Randolph Way. The job fair will highlight a variety of seasonal opportunities, including positions for KIDCO, lifeguards, sports, and therapeutic recreation workers. These roles provide valuable experience and a chance to make a difference in the community while earning a paycheck. Applicants are encouraged to attend to learn more and apply on-site.
