FATAL PEDESTRIAN COLLISION 6100 BLOCK OF SOUTH KOLB ROAD |
On March 12, 2025, just before 5 a.m., officers from Operations Division East were dispatched to the 6100 block of South Kolb Road for a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Tucson Fire Department personnel had pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene. Officers identified the pedestrian as 59-year-old Daniel Joseph Vigil. Mr. Vigil’s family was located and notified of his passing. TPD’s Traffic Unit Detectives responded to the crash and continued the investigation.
Witness interviews, in conjunction with roadway evidence, indicated that the pedestrian attempted to cross Kolb Road, westbound, approximately 280 feet north of Valencia Road. The pedestrian was first struck by a 2016 Hyundai Tucson and then a 2020 Toyota Camry. Both vehicles were traveling southbound in the right turn lane of S. Kolb Road. Detectives noted that Mr. Vigil was not in a marked or unmarked crosswalk. An officer from the DUI Unit responded to the scene and determined that neither driver was impaired at the time of the collision. Any impairment within the pedestrian may be determined through medical records.
Midblock crossing by the pedestrian is the known contributing factor of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges or citations have been issued.
