An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of Aiden Lopes from August of last year. Homicide detectives learned that a physical altercation had taken place before the shooting. Through evidence and follow-up interviews, investigators identified several individuals who were present during the altercation. Of the group, detectives identified 29-year-old John Jordan Lopez as the suspect.
On February 25, 2025, officers from Operations Division East/Community Response Team and Operations Division West/Community Response Team located Mr. Lopez and took him into custody. He was ultimately charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Prohibited Possessor. He is currently being held at the Pima County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond. On Saturday, August 17, 2024, patrol officers from Operations Division East responded to a residence in the 3900 block of S. Winter Palm Dr. for a shooting. Officers arrived just after 3:30 p.m. and located a male with gunshot trauma in the backyard. Officers began rendering aid until Tucson Fire responded and transported him to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The victim’s injuries were life threatening and detectives from the Shooting Investigations Unit and Homicide Unit responded to continue the investigation.
On August 22, 2024, TPD was notified that the victim succumbed to his injuries in the hospital and was pronounced deceased. He was identified as 27-year-old Aiden Juwan Lopes. With the passing of Mr. Lopes TPD Homicide Detectives have taken over the investigation. Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward and call 88-CRIME.
