Captain Adam Kidd Operations Division Midtown
February 2025
Overview of Operations Division Midtown
Operations Division Midtown (ODM) encompasses 44 square miles, bordered by city limits to the north, Campbell Avenue to the west, Davis Monthan Air Force Base to the south, and Craycroft Road to the east. We are home to approximately 120,000 residents, not including daily business and commuter traffic. ODM includes 50 recognized neighborhood associations, as well as 32 City of Tucson parks.
ODM's officers and CSOs are tasked with providing 24/7 law enforcement services to the division. These include responding to over 56,000 911 calls per year, proactive patrol operations, plainclothes enforcement, traffic enforcement, community outreach, long-term crime reduction projects (VIVA - Violence Interruption and Vitalization Action), as well as numerous others.
As an example of just one crime reduction project, ODM has been involved with our partners at Suntran, the Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility, and other City departments to work on redesigning the bus stop located on the southwest corner of Speedway and Alvernon. That stop has been a source of criminal activity that has affected the area for some time. The hope is that residents of the neighborhood will see a noticeable improvement from the design changes implemented.

The driver was detained and search of the truck revealed approximately 210 fentanyl pills, 30 Xanex pills, 1.5 grams of crack, 15 grams of methamphetamine, and a scale. The driver was charged and booked into the Pima County Jail.

ODM in the Community: Love of Reading Month
In February, the Midtown Zebras and School Safety Officers (SSOs) visited numerous schools for Love of Reading events. We had the opportunity to read to different grades at Roberts-Naylor K-8, Sam Hughes School, Ocotillo Learning Center, and a few more still to come. A great way to interact with the kids and share some stories!
Member Highlight
This month, ODM would like to highlight the excellent work by our Community Response Team.
During February, ODM’s Community Response Team (CRT) made a significant impact on drug and violent crime in our division. CRT has used anonymous tips from the public via the 88-CRIME system, as well as target locations from our patrol officers, to tackle the narcotics and violence problem that affects residents of our Midtown community.
Over the course of the month, CRT units have seized over 500,000 fentanyl pills, 80 grams of methamphetamine, 2 ½ kilograms of cocaine and 21 firearms. These seizures represent two of the many operations they have conducted – both spurred by tips from neighborhood residents.
Seizures of this size have impacted the availability of these narcotics for people struggling with addiction and prevented an unknown number of overdoses of Tucson residents. While the work being done by CRT units all over Tucson makes an impact, we as a community have to stay vigilant and continue to report areas of concern.
Crime Prevention Tip
With all the news about sensitive personal and financial data potentially being accessed by malicious actors, there is something you can do to protect yourself – freeze your credit reports. It's free.
If you freeze your credit reports with the big three credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, it creates a roadblock for people trying to take out a loan or apply for credit in your name. If you need to apply for a loan, you can temporarily unfreeze your accounts and then refreeze them again. For more information, and links to the three credit reporting agencies, visit: https://www.usa.gov/credit-freeze.
