FATAL MOTORCYCLE COLLISION 3900 BLOCK OF EAST GOLF LINKS ROAD |
On February 7, 2025, just before 3:00 p.m., officers from Operations Division Midtown responded to the 3900 block of East Golf Links Road for reports of a collision involving a motorcyclist. Members of the Tucson Fire Department arrived at the scene and evaluated the parties involved. The motorcyclist was transported by TFD to the hospital where he was ultimately pronounced deceased. Officers identified him as 69-year-old Nicholas G. Jeffers. TPD Traffic Detectives were notified and responded to continue the investigation.
Interviews conducted by officers and detectives determined that Mr. Jeffers was riding a 2018 Indian motorcycle westbound on Golf Links Rd. and exited onto the Aviation Highway/Alvernon Way on-ramp when he collided into the rear of a 2013 Volkswagen Passat. The Volkswagen was stopped in the gore area between the Aviation Hwy. and Alvernon Way on-ramps at the time of the collision. The Volkswagen’s driver was identified as an 81-year-old male and was not injured. An officer from the DUI Unit responded to assist and determined that the driver was not impaired. Any impairment within Mr. Jeffers may be determined through medical records. Mr. Jeffers had the proper motorcycle endorsement associated with his driver’s license but was not wearing a helmet.
Failure to control speed by the motorcyclist and the stationary position in the roadway by the Volkswagen have been listed as the known contributing factors of the collision. The driver of the Volkswagen was issued a citation for being positioned in the gore area. The investigation remains ongoing.
