HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION 2600 BLOCK OF NORTH FIRST AVENUE |

The Tucson Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred last night on North First Avenue near East Copper Street.
At approximately 11:40 p.m., patrol officers from Operations Division West responded to a shooting in a parking lot in the 2600 block of N. 1st Ave. Upon arrival, officers located 23-year-old Rene Miguel Armendarez with gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering aid and performed CPR while additional officers gathered witnesses. Despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Armendarez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Detectives from the Homicide Unit and Shooting Investigations Unit were briefed and continued the investigation.
Detectives learned that Mr. Armendarez had been in the parking lot with a group of individuals. At one point, Mr. Armendarez had a brief interaction with another group of individuals. During the interaction, shots were fired, resulting in Mr. Armendarez being struck. No other injuries were reported.
Detectives were able to speak with witnesses at the scene, and have all parties accounted for. Investigators believe there are no outstanding suspects and are asking anyone with information, or who may have been present during the shooting, to contact 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME. Detectives are continuing the investigation and will present their findings to the Pima County Attorney’s Office.
