On February 6, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department responded to the 3000 block of North Oracle Road for a collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, the involved pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was identified as 25-year-old Antonio Benjamin Dorame. The involved driver, an adult male, was transported to Banner University Medical Center with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported at the scene. Traffic Unit Detectives were contacted and responded to continue the investigation.
Witness interviews conducted by officers and detectives, in conjunction with roadway evidence, determined that Mr. Dorame was crossing Oracle Rd. in an unknown direction when he was struck by a 2005 Honda Civic. The Honda was traveling northbound in the middle lane. The pedestrian was not in a marked or unmarked crosswalk and witnesses estimated the Honda’s speed was well above the posted 40 mph speed limit. After striking the pedestrian, the Honda continued northbound on Oracle Rd. without stopping and ran the red light at Fort Lowell Rd. The Honda then struck a vehicle that was making a left turn from westbound Fort Lowell onto southbound Oracle. This collision resulted in a subsequent three car collision involving cars stopped on the north side of the intersection.
An officer from the DUI Unit responded to the hospital and determined that the driver of the Honda, identified as 21-year-old Juan Carlos Urquidez, was impaired at the time of the collision. Additionally, narcotic paraphernalia was found in the vicinity of the pedestrian; Mr. Dorame. Investigators listed impaired driving by Mr. Urquidez and midblock crossing by Mr. Dorame as the major contributing factors of the various collisions.
After Mr. Urquidez was released from the hospital, he was booked into the Pima County Jail and charged with Manslaughter, four counts of Aggravated Assault, four counts of Felony Endangerment, and Felony Criminal Damage. He is currently being held on a $250,000 bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
