FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION EAST AJO WAY AND SOUTH FORGEUS AVENUE |
On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, patrol officers from Operations Division South were dispatched to a serious-injury collision on East Ajo Way and South Forgeus Avenue. Officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department arrived just after 10:15 a.m. and tended to the parties involved. Despite life-saving efforts, one of the involved drivers was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers identified him as 71-year-old Nihad Issa Ahmad Asad. Next of kin was notified. Traffic Unit Detectives were contacted and responded to continue the investigation.
Interviews conducted by officers and detectives in conjunction with evidence determined that Mr. Ahmad Asad was driving a white transport van and attempted to turn left from westbound Ajo Way. As he turned, his van was struck by a black Kia Forte that was traveling eastbound on Ajo. The driver of the Kia, identified as an 18-year-old female, was not injured and cooperated with the investigation. An officer from the Impaired Driver Enforcement Unit responded to the crash and determined that the driver of the Kia was not impaired.
As the investigation continues, detectives have listed failure to yield while making a left turn by Mr. Ahmad Asad as the major contributing factor.
