FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION 6800 BLOCK OF EAST TANQUE VERDE ROAD |
At approximately 4:30 a.m. this morning, officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision in the 6800 block of E. Tanque Verde Road, near East Camino Principal. Tucson Fire personnel also responded to the scene and pronounced the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle deceased. Traffic Unit Detectives were notified and continued the investigation.
Witness statements in conjunction with roadway evidence indicate that a 2005 Kia Rio was traveling westbound on Tanque Verde Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control near a curve. The vehicle drove over the raised curb and struck a palm tree.
During the investigation, detectives found alcohol containers and marijuana paraphernalia in the vehicle. Additionally, detectives noted that the driver was not wearing his seatbelt. The driver was identified as 18-year-old Randy Allan Woltz. Any impairment may be determined through medical records. Excessive speed is believed to be the major contributing factor of the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
