HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION 800 BLOCK OF WEST AJO WAY |
On January 4, 2025, just after 1:30 p.m., the Public Safety Communications Department (PSCD) received a 9-1-1 call reporting a shooting in the 800 block of W. Ajo Way. Officers from Operations Division South were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, police located an adult female with gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering first aid until members of the Tucson Fire Department arrived and continued life-saving measures. Despite these efforts, the female was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police identified the female as 23-year-old Nazhoni Nunez. Next of kin has been notified of her passing. The adult male caller who discharged his handgun remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Detectives from the Homicide Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. After speaking with witnesses and canvassing the area, investigators learned that Mrs. Nunez and the victim were in a domestic relationship. Mrs. Nunez forced her way into the victim's apartment, where an altercation occurred. During that altercation, she was struck by gunfire. The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges or arrests have been made. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be presented to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for review.
