|
|
On January 1, 2025, just before 2:30 a.m., the Public Safety Communications Department (PSCD) received a 9-1-1 call reporting a shooting on N. 1st Avenue, north of Grant Road. Officers from Operations Division West were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, police located the victim in the roadway with gunshot trauma near a vehicle. Officers immediately began rendering first aid and performed CPR on the victim until members of the Tucson Fire Department arrived and continued life-saving efforts. The victim was ultimately transported by TFD to Banner University Medical Center where he died several hours later. Police identified the victim as 23-year-old Ariel Aurelio Guarista. His family was located and notified. Detectives from several units, to include the Homicide Unit, Aggravated Robbery Unit, and the Shooting Investigations Unit responded to the scene and continued the investigation.
After reviewing witness interviews and canvassing the area, investigators believe Mr. Guarista was struck by gunfire while he was near a parking lot in the 2600 block of N. 1st Ave. Detectives are working to determine what led to the gunfire and the identity of the involved suspects. Additional forensic testing is pending, and detectives are asking anyone with information to contact 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME, you can remain anonymous.
