Volunteers are being sought for the annual Point-in-Time Count, a community-wide effort to take a census of individuals who are experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Pima County. 

The Point-In-Time count, known as the PIT count, will be conducted during the early morning of Jan. 29, 2025. Volunteers will spread across the City and parts of Pima County to survey unsheltered individuals and gather some information. The count provides a snapshot of what homelessness looks like on a single night in Pima County. 

“Volunteers are pivotal to the success of the Point in Time count!  It takes hundreds of people to get it done. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with your community and support our unhoused neighbors,” said Kat Davis, Continuum of Care Manager for Housing and Community Development for the City of Tucson.   

The Point-in-Time count is conducted by the Tucson Pima County Coalition (TPCH) and is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. TPCH plans and coordinates the count and will provide volunteers with training on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 5:30 – 7 p.m., before the PIT count is conducted. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. The morning of the count, volunteers will conduct interviews using a standardized electronic survey. Volunteers will go out in groups with a team leader, to their assigned geographic area.  

The data collected during the count provides TPCH, Housing and Community Development, and civic partners with vital information on our community’s homeless population. The count is used to determine gaps in service and enhance support services for the unsheltered and is used to solicit funds from the federal government. 

Instructions for registering for the 2025 Everyone Counts! Pima County Street Count:

1. Log in or create a “City of Tucson Community GIS HUB account.” Create the Hub Account by clicking “Create Account” and following the instructions. You’ll receive an email from “ArcGIS Notifications notifications@esri.com” with the subject line “Your City of Tucson Community GIS account” with an activation link. (Creating an account will allow you to complete the registration form, helps us organize volunteers, and will serve as your access to the survey on the morning of the Count.)

1. Once your account is activated, go back to https://bit.ly/PIT2025 and click the “Complete Application Form” button.  

1. Complete the Application Form and hit the “Submit” button. You will see a thank you screen once you application has been successfully submitted.
