Hello Tucson,
Mayor and Council will meet next Tuesday, December 10. One item I know will be of interest during the Regular (evening) Session is the Public Hearing: Unified Development Code (UDC) Amendment: (C8-24-02) Multifamily Residential Development and Adaptive Reuse of Qualified Obsolete Commercial Buildings (City Wide). During Study Session we will continue our work to address two pressing concerns impacting Tucson: fentanyl dealing/use and homelessness.
Travel and Leisure Magazine just ranked Tucson as the #2 Best Food City in the US (just behind New York City). We oughta take pride in accolades like this:
Tucson was the first U.S. city to be deemed a UNESCO City of Gastronomy in 2015. Today, the destination continues to wow culinary connoisseurs with its distinct Native American and Mexican offerings dating back thousands of years. The best Tucson restaurants incorporate locally sourced ingredients into their drinks and dishes. With this in mind, prickly pear margaritas are a staple here, as are nopales (edible cacti). Tucson’s vibrant downtown district has 85-plus bars and restaurants, including Bata (which offers a largely veggie-focused menu — 90 percent of which is sourced within 400 miles of the restaurant) and taqueria Boca. Helmed by James Beard finalist Maria Mazon, Boca is famous for its flavorful tacos and salsa flights.
The strength of our local economy, driven by unique assets we’ve cultivated such as this, just earned Tucson excellent bond ratings from external entities like Moody’s: "The positive outlook on the city reflects the expectation that the city's economy will grow supported by new developments and that its financial position will remain sound, supported by management's demonstrated ability to make timely budgetary adjustments as necessary to maintain financial flexibility." Kudos to the Mayor and Council and our city management and city employees for this achievement, accomplished through solid fiscal management.

Tucson Police Department- Traffic Watch
Reckless and unsafe driving remains one of the top concerns for Tucson residents and our TPD Traffic Safety Unit is dedicated to making our roadways safer through daily practice enforcement. Immediate officer response can be reported through 911 but if you see this happening frequently in your neighborhoods, you can make an online report via Tucsonaz.gov/trafficwatch. An officer later reviews this information to contact the registered owner of the vehicle and they can receive citations. Please watch video for easy instructions HERE.
Calls from Santa
Santa and his elves are excited to bring some holiday magic to local children with the Santa’s Calling program hosted by the City of Tucson Parks & Recreation Program. Children aged 4-8 will have the chance to talk with Santa and hear his elves working behind the scenes. To participate, complete the online registration form in either English or Spanish (link below) by Sunday, December 8. Be sure to be available by phone from December 10-12, between 5:30-8 p.m., to receive Santa’s call. Children who cannot be reached will receive a special letter from Santa. Online registration form
