FATAL PEDESTRIAN COLLISION (HIT AND RUN) SOUTH 4TH AVENUE AND EAST 13TH STREET |
|
|
On Sunday, October 27, 2024, shortly before 3:00 a.m., officers from Operations Division West and personnel from the Tucson Fire Department responded to South 4th Avenue and East 13th Street for reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene and fled prior to police arrival. TFD evaluated the adult female pedestrian and pronounced her deceased at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
Detectives from the Traffic Investigations Unit responded to continue the investigation. After conducting interviews and evaluating roadway evidence, detectives learned that the adult female was in the middle of the road when she was struck by a vehicle traveling on S. 4th Ave. The pedestrian was not in a marked or unmarked crosswalk, was wearing dark clothing, and street lighting was limited in the area.
The pedestrian being in the roadway, outside a marked or unmarked crosswalk, is considered a major contributing factor to the collision. However, the driver of the vehicle failing to remain at the scene is the primary focus of the investigation.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about this collision to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME. This remains an ongoing investigation.
