CITY OF TUCSON CELEBRATES THE GRAND OPENING OF A NEW SPLASH PAD AT JESSE OWENS PARK
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, Ward 2 Council Member Paul Cunningham, and Tucson Parks and Recreation invite you to a hauntingly good time as we celebrate the completion of a new splash pad at Jesse Owens Park. This project, located next to the existing pool, marks the City’s 10th splash pad. The event will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m. at Jesse Owens Park, 400 S. Sarnoff Drive.
“It's great to see the transformation taking place at Jesse Owens Park. This space has so much history and is an important gathering place for our east side community,” said Tucson Mayor Regina Romero. “Thank you to Tucson voters for approving Proposition 407 and helping us deliver investments like this splash pad to the residents of Ward 2. Our pools and splash pads bring families together and are investments in the future of our City’s heat relief infrastructure,” added the Mayor.
The new splash pad was made possible through Tucson Delivers, 2018 voter-approved Proposition 407 bond funds, Impact Fees, and Ward 2 funds. Improvements include a new splash pad area, shade canopies, ADA-compliant restrooms, and access.
"With the opening of the Jesse Owens Park splash pad, all four major recreational parks in Ward 2—Jesse Owens, Fort Lowell, Palo Verde, and Udall—now offer splash pads for families to enjoy seven months out of the year,” said Ward 2 Council Member Paul Cunningham. “My thanks to the voters for passing Prop. 407 which helped fund these improvements, our Parks and Recreation team, the design team, and the contractors."
McGann & Associates was the design team and KappCon was the contractor for this project. All City splash pads are open daily from 8 a.m.-sunset, from April 1 through Oct. 31. For a list of all City of Tucson splash pads, visit Tucsonaz.gov/parks.
