NEW SPLASH PAD COMPLETED AT JESSE OWENS PARK
City of Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, Ward 2 Council Member Paul Cunningham, and Tucson Parks and Recreation celebrated the completion of a new splash pad at Jesse Owens Park, 400 S. Sarnoff Drive. This project, located next to the existing pool, marks the City’s 10th splash pad. It was made possible through Tucson Delivers, 2018 voter-approved Proposition 407 bond funds, Impact Fees, and Ward 2 funds. Improvements include a new splash pad area, shade canopies, ADA-compliant restrooms, and access. McGann & Associates was the design team and KappCon was the contractor for this project.
The splash pad is currently closed for the season, but will reopen in April. All City splash pads are open daily from 8 a.m.-sunset, from April 1 through Oct. 31.
BARRIO NOPAL PROJECT UPDATE
Construction of Barrio Nopal Park, 311 E. Elvira Rd., is on schedule for completion next summer!
The new park will feature a variety of amenities designed to enhance the community's outdoor experience. These include a new splash pad area with above and below-pad spray amenities, a shade structure, a playground, and restrooms. Additionally, the park will include a new walking path, ramadas, benches, and lighting. A new parking lot and accessible entrance will be located on the south end of the park, ensuring that the park is easily accessible to all members of the community.
Funding for the project has been secured through a combination of Tucson Delivers Great Parks + Strong Connections 2018 voter-approved general obligation bonds and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
