CITY OF TUCSON TO REQUEST RELEASE OF FUNDS FOR MISSION MANOR AQUATIC PARK; NO SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON ENVIRONMENT FOUND
The City of Tucson Housing & Community Development Department (HCD) will submit, on or about October 16, 2024, a request to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the release of Community Project Funding (CPF) funds under Division L, Title II of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 (Public Law 117-328) (the FY2023 Act), to undertake a project known as the Mission Manor Park Aquatic Complex project.
The project provides for improvements in the center/west portion of the existing, 37-acre, Mission Manor Park. Project activities include demolition of the existing aquatic complex, closed since 2008; construction of a new public aquatic complex; and constructing green storm water improvements in the existing east and west parking lots.
Existing portions of park to be demolished include a pool, a wading pool, equipment yard/pumphouse, showers and bathrooms, and offices and storage. The new aquatic complex will offer a recreation pool with zero depth entry on the shallow end to allow low impact aerobic programs, swim lessons, a therapy pool, a splashpad, and a plaza area.
The new aquatic complex will also contain office spaces, storage, showers, and bathrooms. New sidewalks will surround the complex. The aquatic center is anticipated to operate on an extended schedule, April through November, depending on staffing and maintenance and repair needs.
The total estimated cost is $6.2 million.
HCD has determined the project will have no significant impact on the human environment. Therefore, an Environmental Impact Statement under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 is not required. Additional project information is contained in the Environmental Review Record (ERR) on file at HCD, 310 North Commerce Park Loop and may be examined or copied weekdays 8 AM to 4 PM, or the ERR can be accessed online at the following website: https://www.tucsonaz.gov/Departments/Housing-and-Community-Development/Documents/Environmental-Review.
Mission Manor Park is located between South Santa Clara and South 12th Avenue, in the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association.
Any individual, group, or agency may submit written comments on the ERR to the City of Tucson Housing & Community Development Department, PO Box 27210, Tucson, Arizona 85726 or by e-mail to rolanda.mazeika@tucsonaz.gov. All comments received by October 15, 2024, will be considered by HCD prior to authorizing submission of a request for release of funds. Comments should specify which Notice they are addressing.
