As the investigation continued into the fatal-shooting of 46-year-old Aaron Boatner, TPD Homicide Detectives identified the suspect as 21-year-old Rogelio Rene Pacheco. Detectives obtained a warrant for Mr. Pacheco’s arrest for 2nd Degree Murder, and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Officers from Operations Division West/Community Response Team initiated the search for the suspect and located him on the night of September 5th near Downtown Tucson. TPD SWAT personnel took Rogelio Pacheco into custody without incident and he was ultimately booked into the Pima County Jail. He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond for his warrant. Detectives are finalizing their investigation and no other suspects are outstanding. His booking photograph and original media release are listed below.

On August 16, 2024, shortly before 4:00 a.m., patrol officers from Operations Division West responded to reports of a shooting near E. Speedway Blvd. and N. Stone Ave. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with gunshot trauma. Officers began rendering aid and identified the victim as a 57-year-old male. He was ultimately transported to a local hospital by the Tucson Fire Department with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers were then directed to a second shooting victim, east of the intersection, near N. 7th Avenue. Officers located an adult male with gunshot trauma and immediately began rendering aid. Despite life-saving efforts by TPD and TFD, the male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was identified as 46-year-old Aaron Taber Boatner. Next of kin was notified of his passing.
As additional officers were circulating the area, they were advised of a third victim at a residence near N. 6th Avenue. Police responded to the home and located a 44-year-old male with gunshot trauma to his lower extremities. He was also transported to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Homicide detectives were contacted and responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses and processed the scene for evidence. Detectives learned that there was an altercation involving multiple individuals when one of the suspects discharged his firearm, striking Mr. Boatner. The 57-year-old victim was also struck by gunfire during the course of this altercation.
The suspects left the area, passing the residence near N. 6th Ave. An altercation occurred and one of the suspects began shooting into the yard, striking the 44-year-old victim. The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival.
The investigation remains ongoing and no suspects are in custody. Anyone who has information about this incident is being asked to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous. Additional updates will be released as they become available.
