Leash Up. Clean Up
The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department has launched a "Leash Up. Clean Up." campaign this month for Responsible Dog Ownership Month. The initiative aims to encourage pet owners to keep their dogs on a leash in public areas and to clean up after them. This campaign seeks to promote responsible pet ownership, raise awareness about the negative impacts of off-leash dogs and dog waste, and ensure compliance with local and state regulations.
Emphasizing the dangers off-leash dogs pose to wildlife and public safety, as well as the health risks associated with dog waste, the campaign also aims to foster a respectful community environment. Tucson Parks and Recreation invites the public to get involved by using the provided toolkit to support and spread the campaign’s messages. For more details, visit tucsonparks.info/LeashUpCleanUp.

PALO VERDE PARK CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION
Tucson Parks and Recreation began construction for improvements at Palo Verde Park, 425 S. Mann Ave., in early August 2024. During this time, the park will remain closed to the public (the pool and splash pad have already been closed for the season). Projects include new and upgraded LED lighting on existing fields, converting the existing tennis court into a basketball court, replacing the existing basketball court with 3 pickleball courts, and renovating the irrigation system. Projects will also include additional trees and turf reduction. Phase 3 project includes playground replacement. These projects are in addition to a renovation of the pool plaster, tile, and dive pools completed in phase one of the Tucson Delivers Proposition 407 bond. The dog park will be the only amenity to remain open during construction (subject to intermittent closures), accessible from Jessica Street. These improvements are made possible through Tucson Delivers, 2018 voter-approved Proposition 407 bond funds of over $2.5 million, Impact Fees, and Ward 2 funds. The estimated completion of construction is summer 2025.
