HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION 5151 EAST SPEEDWAY BOULEVARD |
On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, patrol officers from Operations Division Midtown were dispatched to the report of a shooting at a gas station, located at 5151 E. Speedway Blvd. Officers arrived just after 8:10 p.m. and located an unresponsive male with gunshot trauma behind the business. Officers immediately began rendering aid and summoned medics from the Tucson Fire Department. Despite life-saving efforts, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police identified him as 43-year-old Ryan Edward Brean. Next of kin was notified. Detectives from the Homicide Unit responded and continued the investigation.
The scene was processed and witnesses were interviewed. Investigators were also notified that a 34-year-old male had arrived to an area hospital with gunshot trauma a short time after the shooting. Detectives determined that both incidents were linked and spoke with the injured male at the hospital. Forensic evidence and interviews determined that Mr. Brean and the male were involved in an altercation prior to the shooting. The altercation escalated into Mr. Brean and the male exchanging gunfire. No other injuries were reported at the scene. The male was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital.
After initial analysis, no charges were filed; however, the case will be presented to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for review. As the investigation continues, detectives are asking anyone with information to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
