JOIN US FOR PARK(ING) DAY 2024
The City of Tucson Department of Transportation & Mobility (DTM) invites you to join us at Park(ing) Day, a global event where the public participates in temporarily rethinking curbside parking spaces and converts them into mini green spaces, interactive places for gathering and fun! Join us for games, pop-up food vendors, parklets, and to learn about the upcoming DTM projects near Congress Street and Grande Avenue.
Park(ing) Day
Friday, September 20, 2024 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. W Congress St between Avenida del Convento and Paseo de los Zanjeros
Projects to be showcased at the event include:
Congress Street/Grande Avenue Safety Project:
The intersection of Congress Street and Grande Avenue was identified as a Safety Project through a Roadway Safety Assessment and the project area extends along Congress Street from Melrose Avenue on the west to Bonita Avenue on the east.
This project is funded by Proposition 411, a half-cent sales tax approved approved by voters to fund improvements to neighborhood streets and safe street improvements that benefit all users and modes. Safety improvements can include projects such as street lighting, sidewalks, bicycle network enhancements, traffic signal technology upgrades, and traffic-calming features.
Grande Avenue Pedestrian Safety and Walkability Project:
The Grande Avenue Pedestrian Safety and Walkability project connects Grande Avenue between Congress Street and Saint Mary's Road. It provides north-south connectivity between Barrio Sin Nombre, Menlo Park and Barrio Hollywood. This project will include traffic calming and water harvesting. The project is 0.7 miles long and connects 3 parks and 2 schools.
This project is funded by Proposition 407, a bond package approved by voters to fund improvements to parks and construction of new bicycle and pedestrian routes.
