MURDER-SUICIDE INVESTIGATION 400 BLOCK OF WEST VIRGINIA STREET |
|
|
The Tucson Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide that took place yesterday morning on Tucson’s Southside.
On June 30, 2022, just before 9:45 a.m., the Public Safety Communications Department (PSCD) received a 9-1-1 call reporting a domestic disturbance. The 9-1-1 caller heard multiple gunshots coming from inside a residence. Officers from Operations Division South were dispatched to the home located in the 400 block of W. Virginia St. When officers arrived, they entered the home and discovered two deceased individuals – both with gunshot trauma. The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old James William Modesitt and his sister, 59-year-old Ramona Catherine Fernandez. Next of kin have been notified of their passing.
Detectives from the Tucson Police Homicide Unit responded to continue the investigation. Detectives conducted several interviews and collected evidence at the scene. After investigating the incident throughout the day, detectives concluded that James Modesitt had shot and killed his sister, Ramona Fernandez, before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life.
The investigation is ongoing, and there are no outstanding suspects.
