PARKS AND RECREATION INCREASES SUMMER POOL HOURS STARTING SATURDAY - Tucson Parks and Recreation is increasing summer pool hours, which will go into effect Saturday, June 8, and last through Wednesday, July 31. CITY OF TUCSON OFFERS COOLING CENTERS DURING EXTREME HEAT - With high temperatures expected to hover above 105 degrees for the next couple of days, with not much relief in sight over the next two weeks, the City of Tucson is offering cooling centers seven days a week, from noon-4 p.m. The centers are located at Donna R. Liggins Center, 2160 N. 6th Ave.; El Pueblo Center, 101 W. Irvington Road; El Rio Center, 1390 W. Speedway Blvd; Freedom Center, 5000 E. 29th St.; Morris K. Udall Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road; and Randolph Center, 200 S. Alvernon Way. Pima County also has a list of additional cooling stations and locations for water and supplies. NEW PLAYGROUND AT PARKVIEW PARK AND JULIA KEEN NEIGHBORHOOD STREET IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETE - Tucson's Ward 5 Council Member Richard Fimbres, the Department of Transportation and Mobility, and Tucson Parks and Recreation invite you to celebrate the completion of a new playground at Parkview Park and roadway improvements throughout the Julia Keen neighborhood. The ribbon-cutting event will take place at the park, 1521 S. Chrysler Ave., on Saturday, June 8, at 9 a.m. The playground was made possible through Tucson Delivers 2018 voter-approved Proposition 407 bond funds and Impact Fees. The roadway improvement project began in January 2024 as part of the 2022 voter-approved Proposition 411 Tucson Delivers Better Streets program. Read the news release
HHW/SHREDDING EVENT THIS WEEKEND - The City of Tucson's Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) is hosting its monthly Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event this Saturday, June 8, from 8 a.m.-noon, at Jacobs Park, 3300 N. Fairview Ave. City residents can drop off HHW, electronic waste, paper documents for shredding (limit 3 boxes), recyclables, and glass bottles and jars at no charge. Unknown chemicals will not be accepted. The event is free for City of Tucson residents with proof of address. Residents from Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita, and unincorporated Pima County will be charged a $10 fee to drop off materials. REID PARK ZOO’S SUMMER SAFARI NIGHTS PROGRAM CONTINUES THIS WEEKEND - Come to Summer Safari Nights, presented by TMC Health, and enjoy Reid Park Zoo in the cooler evening hours. Each Saturday night features keeper chats, animal encounters, artifact stations, giraffe feedings, carousel rides, crafts, and games. Face painting and glitter tattoos are available for purchase. Tucson Parks and Recreation’s "Ready, Set, Rec!" program will be there, too. There is a different theme each week. This Saturday, June 8, from 6-8 p.m., the theme will be " Ocean Conservation & Sustainable Seafood," featuring grizzlies, otters, and pacu (fish). Entertainment will be provided by Amber Gaia.
