Letter from Council Member Fimbres
Dear Friends,
The month of May is a wonderful time of year. There were so many things to celebrate from Mother’s Day, to just basking in the beauty of the Sonoran Desert when Spring is in full force. I hope you all took the time to do something this month that nurtured you and uplifted you whether it’s spending time with friends and family, reading a good book, or starting a new hobby. There is always a fun activity to be involved in here in the great city of Tucson.
|
As I mentioned, in the month of May we celebrate Mother’s Day. This is a day on which we take time to reflect on the significance that mothers have in our lives. They carry us in their wombs for nine months, they give birth to us, they nurse us back to health when we are sick, and they do everything in their power to make sure we have everything that we need. Mothers are our everyday superheroines! I also want to honor all the selfless and brave women who have taken on the role of motherly figures. You are also worthy of honor and admiration! On behalf of the Ward 5 Council Office, we hope you all enjoy your special day with your loved ones. You deserve it!
Next, I want to mention Cinco De Mayo. This is a historic day on which we commemorate the Mexican Army’s triumphant defeat of the French Army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Tucson holds many festivities on this day, and I hope you had the chance to celebrate responsibly.
|
Thirdly, May is graduation month. Many schools across Tucson, including Pima Community College and the University of Arizona, hold their graduation ceremonies. I want to congratulate all students on this outstanding achievement. Education is the Key to Success! You deserve to celebrate, but again, please do so responsibly!
|
Lastly, Memorial Day was on May 27 this year. This day means so much to me as a retired Army Veteran. This is a day in which we honor all the brave men and women in uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can all enjoy the great freedoms that this country has. To all who have lost a loved one in the line of duty, our heart goes out to you. Please remember, “All gave some, some gave all.”
|
As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions/concerns you may have. My staff will be more than happy to assist you. We can be reached at (520) 791-4231, or you can send us an email at ward5@tucsonaz.gov.
Sincerely,
Your Ward 5 Council Member

The Industrial Technologies Addition at JTED’s Innovative Learning Center Ribbon Cutting Event
On May 2, my staff and I attended the ribbon cutting event for The Industrial Technologies Addition at JTED’s Innovative Learning Center.

I want to congratulate JTED Superintendent and CEO Kathy Prather, whose knowledge and expertise have been vital to the growth and success of this amazing learning institution.

I want to thank Board member Alex Jacome for his fervent support, and Construction teacher Cassandra Rodriguez who is commended for her efforts in proving women can also be successful in construction and other male dominated fields. I also want to thank City of Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and City Manager Michael Ortega for assisting with this process.

Cards and Letters for Our Veterans
On Friday, May 24, we were delighted to share with the VA hospital veterans heartwarming donations made by talented school children from Ward Five. In honor of Memorial Day, these young artists and writers poured their creativity and compassion into creating artwork and heartfelt letters for the veterans at the VA hospital.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the school children, their teachers, and all those who supported this initiative. Their dedication to honoring our veterans and teaching our children the importance of gratitude and compassion is truly commendable. Through this donation, you have not only brightened the lives of our veterans but also instilled in our children the importance of recognizing and honoring the sacrifices made by those who have served our country.
|
As we reflect on the significance of Memorial Day, let us remember the selflessness and bravery of our veterans. Let us continue to support and uplift them, not only on this day but every day. The donation from our school children's artwork and letters is a testament to the power of unity, compassion, and gratitude.
Thank you for being part of a community that values and honors our veterans.
