THE CITY OF TUCSON TO OPEN MANSFIELD POOL AND NEW WATER SLIDE ON SATURDAY, JUNE 1
City of Tucson Vice Mayor and Ward 3 Council Member Kevin Dahl and Tucson Parks and Recreation are excited to celebrate the opening of Mansfield Pool, 2275 N. 4th Ave., and its new water slide on Saturday, June 1, at 3 p.m. The pool will be open from 1-7 p.m. and a community celebration will be hosted from 3-7 p.m. Be one of the first people down the water slide and enjoy free swimming, music, food, and “Ready, Set, Rec!” with some fun water games.
“The new water slide at Mansfield Pool is a wonderful new resource that will help kids and families stay cool just in time for summer break,” said Tucson Mayor Regina Romero. “Thank you to Tucson voters who helped pass Prop 407 which is investing $225 million to improve our City parks and connections. Investments like these are adding to the quality of life in vibrant, multigenerational neighborhoods like Sugar Hill,” added the Mayor.
The pool will be open June 1-July 31. The full schedule can be found on the Parks and Recreation website. The pool’s new 132-foot-long open flume water slide was provided by Splashtacular. The project was overseen by consultant McGann and Associates, with construction carried out by Hunter Contracting. Notable aspects of the new construction include the installation of an in-pool suction drain compliant with the Virginia Graeme Baker Act and the implementation of energy-efficient variable frequency drive pumps.
"We are excited for the start of pool season and so overjoyed that the slide is back at Mansfield pool," said Vice Mayor Dahl.
Funding for the project was secured through a combination of Tucson Delivers Great Parks + Strong Connections 2018 voter-approved general obligation bonds, Ward 3 funds, and Investment Plan funds. On Nov. 6, 2018, City of Tucson voters approved Proposition 407, a $225 million bond package for capital improvements via General Obligation bonds. The bond funds are dedicated to improving City park amenities (playgrounds, sports fields, pools, splash pads, and recreation centers) as well as connections (pedestrian pathways, bicycle pathways, and pedestrian and bicycle safety). Projects are happening in phases through 2028. Thank you, Tucson voters! For more information on all the projects planned using Tucson Delivers bond funds, visit TucsonDelivers.Tucsonaz.gov.
