Students will be asked to register in one of three categories – StarBabies, Swim School, or Stroke School. Before registering, please determine your child's skill level based on the criteria below.
StarBabies (ages 6 months-3 years old): Introduces infants and toddlers to the water in a fun and loving environment. Parents or caregivers are taught effective techniques to teach their infants and toddlers how to float, submerge, move in the water, and roll over to breathe. Classes incorporate songs, activities, and water safety education. Swim diapers and tight-fitting waterproof pants over the swim diaper are required.
Starfish Swim School (ages 3-17 years old): This class is for those who are beginning to learn to swim and cannot swim freestyle across the pool's deep end. They also cannot tread water for at least 60 seconds.

White Star Benchmark 1: Easily can submerge entire face and body

Red Star Benchmark 2: Independent floating on front and back.

Yellow Star Benchmark 3: Can perform the swim-roll-swim method

Blue Star Benchmark 4: Can swim with forward movement with good side breathing body position and proper flutter kick
- Green Star Benchmark 5: Can perform front stroke with 1, 2, 3 breathing pattern with face in the water, overarm action and strong flutter kick
Starfish Stroke School (ages 3-17 years old): This class is for children who can easily swim front stroke with a 1, 2, 3 breathing pattern, face in the water, overarm action, and strong flutter kick across the deep end of the pool. They can also tread water for at least 60 seconds in deep water.

Adaptive swim instruction is available for children ages 5-16 with physical or cognitive disabilities. Parent participation is required. Call 520-837-8059 for prescreening and approval to register for these classes.
