As the investigation continued into the fatal shooting of Devon French, homicide detectives identified a suspect and were able to obtain an arrest warrant.
Through additional statements and forensic evidence, detectives identified 36-year-old Demetre Joseph Mayzak as the suspect. A warrant for his arrest for 1st Degree Murder was obtained; however, his whereabouts were unknown and it was believed that he fled the Tucson area. On May 7, 2024, US Marshals in Tacoma, WA and officers from the Tacoma Police Department found Demetre Mayzak and took him into custody. He was ultimately booked into the Pierce County Jail and is being held on his warrant for 1st Degree Murder. The suspect is awaiting extradition back to Arizona and a booking photo is currently not available. The original media release from February 18, 2024 is listed below.

Yesterday evening, around 6:30 p.m., officers from Operations Division West responded to a shots fired call in the parking lot of 319 E. Mohave Rd. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim seated in a vehicle with gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering aid until Tucson Fire arrived and continued life-saving efforts. The male ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police identified the victim as 29-year-old Devon French. His family was notified. Detectives from TPD’s Homicide Unit were called to the scene and continued the investigation.
Initial interviews were completed and the scene was processed. The investigation is still in the early stages and detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting. No suspects have been identified and anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous. Additional updates will be released as they become available.
