Line of Duty Death
On the evening of March 31, 2024, Easter Sunday, TPD and Operations Division Midtown Lead Police Officer Adam Buckner was responding to a priority call, his emergency lights and siren activated. As he approached the intersection of Campbell Avenue and 6th Street, a motorist failed to yield, causing a collision. LPO Buckner was gravely injured and, despite the life-saving efforts of community members, other officers, Tucson Fire personnel, and medical staff at Banner University Medical Center, he did not survive his injuries.
LPO Buckner was an outstanding police officer, who joined TPD as a lateral hire from New Orleans. He was 31 years old.
It is with great sadness that we join with Officer Buckner’s family, friends, and the rest of the Tucson Police Department community in mourning this loss. LPO Buckner will be greatly missed.
Motorist Saved From Burning Vehicle
On April 14, 2024, TPD officers were in the area of the Tucson Mall when they heard the sound of screeching tires and loud crash. Officers searched the area and located a passenger car that had struck a light pole. A single occupant was unconscious inside the vehicle, which had caught fire, and flames were quickly spreading to engulf the vehicle. Officers burst into action and despite the growing hazard, pulled the driver to safety with the assistance of a good Samaritan. Officers Sarah Girvin and Shawn Corrigan and Community Service Officer Daniel True should be commended for the extraordinary example they provided of what it means to serve the Tucson community with courage.
