MURDER SUICIDE INVESTIGATION
300 BLOCK OF WEST PLACITA DURANGO |

On April 25, 2024, just before 12:00 p.m., the Public Safety Communications Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a shooting from a residence in the 300 block of W. Placita Durango, near W. Bilby Road. Upon arrival, officers from Operations Division South entered the home and located two unresponsive adults. Both individuals had signs of gunshot trauma and were pronounced deceased by Tucson Fire Department personnel. They were identified as 37-year-old Karla Maria Krafft and 39-year-old Esaul Duarte Sotelo.
Detectives from the Homicide Unit were called to the scene and continued the investigation. Detectives and Crime Scene personnel processed the home for evidence and conducted interviews. Investigators determined that Esaul Sotelo and Karla Krafft were married and lived together in the home. Earlier that day, during an argument, Esaul Sotelo retrieved a gun and shot Ms. Krafft, before turning the gun on himself. Next of kin were located and notified. Detectives are continuing the investigation, and are calling the shooting an apparent murder/suicide.
