As the investigation continued into the fatal shooting of Alex Medina, TPD Homicide Detectives learned that prior to the shooting; Mr. Medina had planned to meet someone near Jacob’s Park. During the meeting, the victim was shot as he sat in his vehicle.
Through the examination of forensic evidence, detectives obtained search warrants for two residences on Tucson’s West Side. The search warrants were carried out on April 9, 2024, with the assistance of Operations Divisions South and West Community Response Teams. During the search, investigators contacted and identified 16-year-old Fabian Nelson Boteo as the suspect. After completing interviews and processing additional evidence, detectives charged Fabian with 1st Degree Murder. He was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail and is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond. A booking photograph of the suspect is not available.

On April 3, 2024, patrol officers from Operations Division West and personnel from the Tucson Fire Department were dispatched to the front of a business in the 1200 block of W. Miracle Mile for the report of a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle occupied by a teenaged female and adult male; the male had sustained gunshot trauma. TFD ultimately transported the male to Banner University Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased. Police identified the victim as 18-year-old Alex Junior Medina. Next of kin has been notified of his passing. The female was not injured and interviewed by officers.
Detectives from the Homicide Unit were called to the scene and took over the investigation. After completing initial interviews and processing the scene, detectives learned that the shooting took place in the 1000 block of W. Lind Street, near Jacobs Park. Detectives are currently working to determine what led up to the shooting and are asking anyone with information to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
