Beginning today people who are interested in applying to fill out the balance of my term as ward 6 city council member may apply. In order to be eligible you must have lived in ward 6 for at least 1 year and have lived in the city of Tucson for at least 3 years.
Send your letter of interest and a resume to the city clerk at cityclerk@tucsonaz.gov. That office will gather all of the applications and screen them for eligibility. Then, on Tuesday, April 23rd the League of Women Voters will host a candidate forum so all eligible candidates may present themselves to the public. The meeting will be held in council chambers at city hall and will run from 5:30 until roughly 7pm. It will also be live-streamed - this flyer has all of the pertinent information about the forum.
If you would like to submit questions for the candidates please email them to the ward 6 office between now and April 12th. That email address is ward6@tucsonaz.gov. The ward 6 staff will forward every question we receive to the city clerk who in turn will send them to the League. The League will review all of the questions submitted and form a representative list of questions to ask the candidates. The number of questions candidates will have an opportunity to answer will depend on how many of them participate in the forum.
The final selection of my replacement will be made by the 5 remaining council members and the mayor during a public meeting - likely the last M&C meeting in April although the date of that meeting has not been decided at this time. They will winnow the full list of candidates down to 4, invite that group to come to the meeting and make a pitch for themselves to the governing body. A majority vote of that group of 6 will determine who fills out the balance of my term.
The ward 6 office will operate 'business as usual' until a selection has been made by the M&C.
Thank you for a great 14 years. I truly appreciate the many very kind cards, calls, texts and conversations I've had with you over the past couple of weeks. Your well-wishes validate the work my staff and I have tried to provide throughout my time on the council.
