Carjacking Suspect Rams TPD K9 Vehicle
On March 7, 2023, two suspects, a male and a female, approached a male victim as he was sitting in his car in a parking lot in the 5800 block of South 12th Avenue. One of the suspects appeared to have a red Dodge Ram pickup.
The female suspect asked the victim for money, and when he told her he didn't have any, she punched him in the face and ordered him out of the car. He complied and the female suspect called to a male suspect, who came over. The victim said the male suspect manipulated his waistline as if he was carrying a handgun, which caused him to fear for his life.
The victim ran off and called 911. The suspects got into the victim's car and drove off. Responding officers located the vehicle on the roadway and initiated a pursuit with marked police vehicles and activated emergency lights and sirens. The female suspect was driving and led officers around a residential neighborhood. She then drove across the center line of the roadway and into a fully marked police K9 vehicle. The K9 vehicle was traveling at approximately 5 m.p.h. and was not being used to block or interfere with the pursuit in any way. The suspect had a clear lane in front of her to go past the police vehicle, but instead collided with the front driver's side of the K9 vehicle. Officer Schneider complained of general body soreness but declined further medical treatment at the time. Her K9 partner appeared to be ok but will be monitored. The suspect's speed was estimated at 30 m.p.h. at the time of the collision.
The victim's vehicle was totaled as a result of the collision (all interior air bags had deployed) and the police vehicle sustained significant damage.
At the same time as the pursuit, officers located a red Dodge Ram pickup matching the suspect vehicle description stopped at a nearby Circle K. The male suspect was detained. He was not in possession of a firearm, and none was located in the truck.
Both suspects were positively identified by the victim during a showup identification. The female suspect, whose license was revoked for a previous DUI, was ultimately charged with Aggravated DUI, Aggravated Robbery, Theft of Means of Transportation, Unlawful Flight, Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, and Criminal Damage Over $10,000.

ODS in the Community
ODS Officer at a school for Love of Reading Month.
Operations Division South would like to thank the Quincie Douglas Center for a successful Egg Hop Hunt. ODS officers helped place the 8,000 eggs and prizes for area children to find.
We would also like to thank the City's Community Safety, Health, and Wellness (CSHW) team. Officer Terry Parker contacted a vulnerable adult on a call and realized that her needs were extensive. He reached out to CSHW for assistance and they were able to put the proper resources in place to ensure that a vulnerable member of our community received the care she needed. Thank you to everyone involved!

Crime Prevention Tip
Wait a minute, would the IRS ask me to pay in cryptocurrency? Or with gift cards?
No, no they would not. That's a scammer. Hang up.
Scammers may be one of the few groups who look forward to tax season every year - another opportunity to impersonate and steal!
Never let someone rush you into action. Scammers want to take your money (or your personal information) before you've had a chance to think, and realize something doesn't seem right.
Also, don't trust your caller ID. Phone numbers are very easy to fake, so the call may look like it's from the IRS but is actually coming from overseas.
