A passenger has passed away as a result of the injuries she sustained from a vehicle collision earlier this week on Tucson’s Westside.
On March 7, 2024, just after 9:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of N. Oracle Rd. and W. Wetmore Rd. for the report of a two-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, members from the Tucson Fire Department were on scene and evaluating the involved parties. The driver of a blue Toyota Camry, identified as a female in her 70s, and her passenger, were transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. A second passenger from the Toyota was not injured. The driver of the other involved vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban, was transported to an area hospital for precautionary reasons. The driver was identified as a 19-year-old female and was contacted by officers. Traffic Investigations Unit Detectives were briefed and responded to continue the investigation.
Interviews conducted by officers and detectives in conjunction with roadway evidence determined that the Toyota was attempting to turn left from northbound Oracle Rd. onto westbound Wetmore Rd. when she collided with the Suburban. The Suburban was traveling southbound on Oracle Rd. It was determined that impairment did not play a role in the collision and the traffic signal sequence at the time of the collision remains unknown.
On March 9, 2024, the Tucson Police Department was notified that the passenger from the Toyota had passed away. She was identified as 74-year-old Sharon Ann Green. Ms. Green’s family was aware of the collision and her passing. The investigation remains open and no charges or citations have been issued.
