ODE in the Community
TPD ODE members at a meet and greet with Fountain Park residents.
In January, ODE members participated in three community events, including a coffee meet and greet hosted by our neighbors at Fountain Park. As the weather warms up, we expect our schedule to fill up with community events. If you’d like to have ODE members at your community event or neighborhood association meeting, please reach out to ODE Crime Free Coordinator Terry Hayward at Teresa.Hayward@tucsonaz.gov.
ODE Commander Change: Farewell From Captain Wakefield
When I learned in July 2022 that I would be reassigned as the captain of Operations Division East, it was a dream come true.
I grew up in Rolling Hills. I went to Marshall Elementary and I played little league baseball in Santa Rita Little League at Hearthstone (now Michael Perry) Park. After a stint in the military, I returned to Tucson and settled close to my roots. I live across from Michael Perry Park and, during spring evenings, I can hear the crowds cheering on their kids.
In addition to growing up on the Eastside, I started my policing career in ODE in 1999. Although I’ve held a variety of positions over the past 24 years, ODE is home.
Over the past year and a half in ODE, I have been amazed at the professionalism, dedication, and work ethic of the officers, community service officers, and professional staff assigned there. Their dedication to keeping the Eastside safe literally helped me sleep soundly at night.
They say all good things must come to an end and my time in ODE is short. I’m being transferred to the Office of Professional Standards. I will look back at my time in ODE fondly and miss working with ODE staff, Council Members and their staff, other City departments, and Eastside community members. I leave you all in good hands as Captain Belinda Morales takes command at the end of February. Look for her introduction in the next newsletter and, if you’re available, swing by the DAC meeting on March 5th to meet her in person.
It was a pleasure serving the Eastside community and I look forward to serving you in the future!
